Cody Tours Rogue Buddha Gallery

Cody stopped by the Rogue Buddha Gallery in Minneapolis last weekend. Some outstanding sculptural artworks by Michael Thomsen were on display (pictured top right), as well as works by recently featured Hive Gallery artist, Rudy Fig, and others.

Cody also had the pleasure of meeting with gallery owner and fellow painter, Nicholas Harper.

The Rogue Buddha's current exhibit, entitled "Drafting Daydreams", runs from August 5th - September 3rd, 2011.

Threyda to Show CodyArt in Milwaukee

On Friday, August 26th, Cody's recent artworks "The Mad Sage" and "Page of Wands" will display at MOCT (pronounced "MOST") in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (pictured at right). The paintings will show in a group exhibition called "Visions of Threyda" featuring the artists of print and art clothing merchant, Threyda LLC.

Threyda's facebook event page states: "A unique visionary art experience featuring the work of our amazing international artists for the first time in Milwaukee!

Cody Acquires Painting by Chris Trenary

Cody dropped by one of Wichita's best advocates and venues for alternative art, the Naked City Gallery and purchased an original painting from their "Drag"-titled show. The acrylic piece measures 10"x16" and is, at least in part, an homage to disaster-stricken Japan. It was painted by Wichita-native Chris Trenary.

Trenary's 2011 itinerary has him showing in Detroit, at the Art Whino Gallery in DC, and at the Last Rites Gallery in New York City.

The five acrylic paintings by artist "MARS-1" (aka Mario Martinez) were easily the strongest of the gallery's offerings. Cody is seen here with "Afterglow".

Sneak-Peek at the Next Budgie Painting!

Take a look! This is one of many new paintings in-production for Cody's next big show. It's a 16" x 20" oil painting on canvas.

This painting will be the 3rd released in Cody's surreal series of budgie-themed artworks (with more to come), along with Budgie-Sattva I and Budgie-Sattva II. It will display publicly on October 1st, at the Hive Gallery in Los Angeles.

Cody Gets a Nod from Rapper Swizz Beatz

Grammy-winning rapper Swizz Beatz showed support for Cody's latest painting "The Mad Sage" yesterday. Swizz posted an image of "The Mad Sage" on his website, SwizzWorld.com, and shared it with more than half a million of his fans on Twitter.

Swizz is a painter himself, as well as an art collector, a dj, producer, and rapper. Among his artistic inspirations he includes the work of Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Harring, and Sheperd Fairey.

Cody Acquires "The Grim" by Brom

Today Cody acquired an original painting by Brom, a revered fantasy artist and author of "The Child Thief". The signed art work, titled "The Grim", was sold from a private collection in Tennessee.

Among other contributions, Brom created art for the Dragonlance and Dungeons and Dragons franchises, which were foundational inspirations of Cody's art in childhood.

Through his art, Brom has also contributed to movies such as Sleepy Hollow, Galaxy Quest, Van Helsing, and Time Machine and classic video games such as Doom and Diablo.

New Painting! "Budgie-Sattva 1"

We are very excited to announce that "Budgie-Sattva 1" is finished and available to view on CodySeekins.com. The 8" x 10" oil painting is arguably one of Cody's most anticipated art works in recent memory. Last September, the work-in-progress preview of Budgie-Sattva 1 that we published quickly became one of our most popular news posts. Since then, we have received numerous notes of praise and excitement over the developing "Budgie-Sattva" series.

The other completed work in this series, "Budgie-Sattva 2" has featured prominently in many of the shows that Cody has participated in. In fact, we've had to turn down shows, amazingly, due to the high-demand of that piece in particular and conflicting show schedules.

There is a third addition to this series that is close to completion and will probably be finished within the next few weeks. These pieces are among those that will be on display at Cody's "Featured Artist" show at the Hive Gallery in Los Angeles this October.

Site Updates: Live Painting Sessions, More

You may notice a few changes around the site. Visitors can now watch Cody's painting sessions live on the front page. The broadcast will start automatically for visitors to the site while Cody is painting. Upcoming gallery show information is also more accessible now, and we have integrated Cody's Twitter updates, social networks, and Paypal account for secure donations and art acquisitions.

The main "Paintings" page, as well as the pages for each individual painting, have also undergone radical changes structurally and cosmetically. We expect these updates will create a vastly more engaging experience for audiences of the art work.

Steady growth in website traffic, interaction, and visitor enthusiasm for the art has inspired the addition of these features and the on-going development of new content as the site expands. We are working to make CodySeekins.com one of the most visible and fully-realized sources for the review of psychedelic paintings.

Cody to be "Featured Artist" @ Hive Gallery

The Hive Gallery is a welcoming and consistently ground-breaking community intersection for artists and audiences. The Los Angeles venue is well-established as an incubator for the careers of many up-and-comers in the alternative art scene, having brought recognition to painters such as Chet Zar, Yoko D'holbachie, and Audrey Kawasaki. But out of the dozens of artists that show each month, only a few are selected to display their work in the esteemed front-of-house "featured artist" spots.

This October, Cody's paintings will occupy one of these spots as a featured artist at the Hive. Brand new paintings will be sent to fill a 20-foot-long wall space, along with a few quintessential pieces from Cody's catalogue of completed works. We expect that "Transmigration" and the crowd-favorite "Budgie-Sattva" series will be among the works on display, but a complete list of works is yet to be determined. That show, which will be the first Hive show for Cody to attend in person, is scheduled to open on October 1st, 2011.

The Hive's New "Juxtapoz" Ad for April 6th Anniversary Show

The Hive will publish a new ad in this month's issue of Juxtapoz Magazine, again including a preview of Cody's work within the showcase of "resident artists".

In other news, Cody's art might be heading to Florida as he was approached by a Miami-based gallery to discuss showing his work in the near future. More to come on that soon.

New Painting! "Page of Wands"

"Page of Wands - Prodigal Son" by Cody Seekins

Cody's latest work is called "Page of Wands - Prodigal Son". The piece was created for a Tarot-card themed art show opening at The Hive Gallery on January 8th, 2011.

"The Page of Wands, as a tarot card, speaks of the impulse of youth; a high energy, potentially explosive, creative, and sexually charged being or condition. In my painting, this renegade energy becomes apparent in the image of the Prodigal Son, referencing both the root, as in "prodigy", as well as the biblical narrative of the youth who strays from the virtuous path, and in doing so, finds virtue at last. The boy as prodigy, a bright, illuminated spirit in touch viscerally with a divine source, is driven into realms of indulgence and the exploration of his curiosities as a means of self-actualizing without the filter of orthodoxy. This therefore, is a map of the quality of self purification through a process of trial and error, an abandon of references in order to reconstruct them first hand.

The wand to his left signifies both the Tarot influence as well as the egyptian scarab which governed the movement of the sun across the heavens. In this painting, the sun is partially eclipsed by a dark mass, revealing the youth's position at the moment between enlightenment and damnation.

Despite the page existing in a dynamic and complex state, his world saturated with vibrance, heat, and chaos, in his eyes a solid intent is revealed--a spiritual focus which does not bend in the quest to ascertain truth."

Cody Acquires Classic Chet Zar Paintings

In a fortuitous review of fine art on eBay last week, Cody discovered and purchased an original Chet Zar painting, "Blockhead", from an avid collector of Lowbrow art. The sale led to the negotiation of another acquisition from the same collector a week later, this time for the painting "Interloper 2".

"Blockhead" and "Interloper 2" are works that contain many defining staples of Chet Zar's beloved, dark, and often emotional portraits. These pieces were created circa 2005-2006 making them some of the original examples of what is now Chet's highly-recognizable archetype. Cody is an admirer of several of the dark artist's paintings.

Chet Zar is currently one of the most prominent figures of "Lowbrow"/Pop Surrealism, a movement that has been thriving since the early millennium. Chet's paintings are in high-demand, sell for thousands, and have been trumpeted in the pages of every major publication linked to the Lowbrow movement including Hi-Fructose Magazine and Juxtapoz Magazine (international). Chet's work as an artist in movies is also extensive (Both Hellboy films, The Ring, Men In Black 2, Cabin Boy, Planet Of The Apes to name a few).

Hive Gallery Features Cody in Juxtapoz Ad

In preparation for it's next art show, The Hive Gallery published a full-page ad in the December issue of Juxtapoz magazine. The ad showcases Cody, along with a selection of The Hive Gallery's other resident artists, as well as a very prominent feature of the extremely famous work of Yoko D'holbachie. Cody is currently producing a new painting specifically for the tarot-card themed art show that will kick off at the Los Angeles-based Hive Gallery on January 8th. Cody's card is the "Page of Wands". The next installment of Cody's developing and enthusiastically-received group of "Budgie-Sattva" paintings is near to completion as well. Look for brand new work in the coming weeks!

"Dust on the Lense" on the cover of NakedCity Volume III Issue X

The latest issue of NakedCity Magazine is now available. The October volume bears Cody's "Dust on The Lense" on the cover and contains an article spread about Cody's paintings, as well as images of the works scheduled to show in NakedCity's gallery. The online version of the magazine can be viewed at NakedCityWic hita.com.

Cody's paintings will be on display in NakedCity's sparkling new gallery space at 121 N. Mead, Suite 104 through mid-November. The show will kick off with an opening reception on Friday, October 22nd, 2010 at 7PM.

A video shot at the "Make it Funky" music and arts festival in Los Angeles shows Cody's painting "Budgie-Sattva II" displayed under representation by The Hive Gallery. The painting can be seen toward the end of this short clip and is adjacent to a piece by Yoko D'Holbachie (also represented by The Hive) whose work appeared on the cover of Hi-Fructose Magazine volume 6 (Fall 2007).

FCC Contracts Cody for Spring 2011 Semester

Before Cody's inaugural Fall semester has even started, Frederick Community College (located in Frederick, Maryland) has extended Cody's invitation to teach at the institution for the full academic year. Cody is currently scheduled to provide adjunct instruction in Fundamentals of Design and Drawing during the Spring 2011 semester.

Cody will be exhibiting work at The Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center from July 21st to August 22nd, 2010, with a reception to be held on August 7th, from 3PM to 5PM. The annual exhibit entitled, "Another Class Act 2010" will feature a selection of works showcasing the art of The Delaplaine's faculty members and their students. The Delaplaine, one of the leading non-profits in the region, officially contracted Cody to their faculty in 2009.

February 13th, 2010: Internet artist community DeviantART.com honored Transgender Buddha Facing Mara with a "Daily Deviation": a prominent feature given to showcase outstanding artworks on the site. As of 2008 DeviantART recieved at least 36 million visitors annually. This is the second Daily Deviation given to Cody, known on DeviantART as "elftantra" http://elftantra.deviantart.com.
